Raku Vase By Maryland artist Dave Warfield From the Artist: Raku pieces are fired unlike any other ware. They are removed from the kiln with tongs when the glaze is still shiny. The red hot piece is placed on sawdust and covered with a metal container. The smoke from the smouldering sawdust penetrates the clay ad cracks in the glaze leaving these areas blackened. This vase is for decoration only. It is fragile, and will not hold water. A watertight container must be placed inside this one in order for it to be used as a vase for fresh flowers. Item(s) must be picked up at the conclusion of the event OR the winner must arrange pick up with Laurel Museum staff within 10 business days.
